Anatomy for Anaesthetists is a unique one-day course aimed at all anaesthetists but specifically those preparing for the FRCA. The day involves structured stations that cover the basic anatomical sciences relevant to anaesthesia and is taught by enthusiastic and knowledgeable anatomists and anaesthetists. Delegates have the opportunity to get hands on experience with cadaveric prosected specimens as well as detailed models, diagrams and radiological images. Teaching is informal, interactive and restricted to small groups where there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Book early to avoid disappointment! Really useful day. Will be recommending to others. Great exam preparation.Clarified anatomy in a logical and systematic manner. Very interactive. Model of larynx FANTASTIC. Excellent – I am actually looking forward to a base of skull question on the exam now! This day has been enormously helpful in terms of understanding relevant anatomy. I feel a lot more confident about tackling anatomy questions in my exam now. This should really be rolled out into core anaesthesia teaching. Thank you for organising and please feed back to all the demonstrators about how instructive they were and how their enthusiasm was infectious.it's the best course I have ever been on.

The Primary Primer is an intensive 2 day course aimed at Trainees about to start their revision for the Primary FRCA After discussions with trainees who had successfully passed the primary, they informed us that some subjects are variably taught and poorly understood. We have therefore designed a course, which uniquely will be taught in small groups, to cover these harder topics - electricity, pharmacokinetics, statistics and many more. Basically, things we wished we'd had explained to us before we started work. This course had been successfully run annually since January 2010 and has always been extremely well received. 100% of candidates have stated that they would recommend the course to a colleague. It is ideal for candidates about to start revision for their first attempt or for those resitting who need to expand their knowledge base. Please note this is not a practice MCQ course but a knowledge giving course designed to help trainees embarking on their revision by teaching the difficult subjects well. Full details including a provisional timetable and application form can be found on the website. Places strictly limited
Engaging and entertaining faculty. Plenty of opportunity to practise viva technique with a mixture of registrars and consultants (at least 10 vivas) Troubleshooting sessions covering particularly challenging concepts.Thoroughly recommended!I enjoyed this course. Everyone was very friendly. Lots of food, especially good were the caramel rice crispy cakes. The questions were of a good standard and difficult increased nicely on the second day. Viva questions were 7.5min long allowing more in depth questioning, which I thought was beneficial.

The Oxford Primary FRCA Course consists of 4 intensive days of lectures, covering the vital parts of the exam syllabus, with the main focus being on preparing for the MCQ/SBA part of the exam. The course is updated annually in response to candidate feedback. The limited number of places ensures you are not lost in a huge lecture theatre. As well as covering physiology and pharmacology, our particular strengths are physics and clinical measurement. These subjects are responsible for the failure of most candidates who are unsuccessful in the examination. We know from feedback from previous courses that participants have welcomed the expertise of our enthusiastic faculty which includes academic staff as well as expert NHS consultant teachers from the Oxford School of Anaesthesia: this combination reflects the profile of the Primary FRCA examiners. A huge file of educational material is provided to all candidates. The course is held St Anne’s College in the centre of Oxford: an ideal setting for an academic week. The course includes lunch each day, and a Course Dinner.
